GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

The Government Shutdown that commenced December 22 offers a good astrology lesson.

The Executive Branch of the U.S. government is headed by the President and represented by the Sun.

In the U.S. chart (July 4, 1776) the Sun is at 13 Cancer.

The U.S. Sun was opposed by Saturn and at 13 Capricorn when the aspect was exact on January 15.

What does Saturn represent?

Obstruction, limitations, control and dominance over others, harsh and usually unfair criticism, and WALLS!

Turbulent Saturn transits to natal Chiron, Jupiter or the SUN are the most challenging transits of all.

The President was limited in his powers, opposed by factions within Congress who refused to negotiate, and the Executive Branch's ability to exert power ground to a standstill in late December and January.

The 3 week extension of the last budget deal that ended the shutdown will end on February 15.

Saturn, however, will conjunct the U.S. Chart's natal Earth on February 23. This means that the Saturnian qualities of condemnation, refusal to negotiate and lack of cooperation will still be a factor when the Executive Branch tries to rehash the budget and once again requests funding for the border wall.

The one good note is that transiting Uranus is now separating from the turbulent, power-shifting square to the U.S. chart's Pluto.

THE MAGNETIC POLE IS SHIFTING !

There is a geographical North Pole and a magnetic North Pole.

We know where the geographical North Pole lies on a map (because Santa Claus lives there, of course!) but the magnetic North Pole changes its position dependent upon the churning of the Earth’s core.

The north magnetic pole is moving from Canada to Siberia and has been picking up speed since the 1990s.  Since 1900 the magnetic north pole has moved across almost 20 degrees of longitude in highly unpredictable ways due to geomagnetic pulses deep within the Earth’s core.

In 2018 the north magnetic pole crossed the International Date Line. This increasingly quick moving shift creates problems for navigation and even the Google maps used on smart phones. It may explain the dramatic shift in the polar vortex that locked a good part of the United States in a deep freeze this week.

Astrology relies on historical data to predict the results of transiting conditions and traditional astrology depends upon aphorisms developed centuries ago when conditions were very different.

Modern astrology must remain fluid and astrologers must remain observant as the earth changes in physical ways.  

After all, the solar system is held in balance due to magnetic forces, so it follows that if these forces shift our understanding of astrology must shift, too.

February begins on a cranky note and ends with an attitude that one must “grin and bear it.”

There are very few truly good days this month to begin something of importance unless you have fabulous personal transits. But you may do worse if you put things off until early March when there is a nasty T-Square.

February 1 - Thumb's down on beginning anything new

February 4 – This is a good day to begin something that must last or endure.

February 9, 10, and 11 – Do not begin anything of importance.

February 12 – Celebrate Valentine’s Day early this year

February 19 - A nice lineup for meeting new people

The State of the Union Address

The SOTU address is now scheduled for February 5, 2019 after being cancelled, delayed and used as a political device to keep the Executive Branch in line.

Stacey Abrams, former member of the Georgia House of Representatives and failed candidate for the Georgia Governor’s office, will lead the Democratic rebuttal to the President’s remarks.

In these historical times, that include the longest Federal Government Shutdown of record, her choice as response speaker is also historical in its own way.

Since 1966 the person chosen by the opposing party to offer the response statement has always been someone of national status such as a Governor, Ex-Governor or a Member of the United States Congress.  See Wikipedia

Stacy Abrams won elections as a local representative in her home state of Georgia and won the Democratic nomination for the Georgia Governor’s race but lost the statewide Gubernatorial election. A loss she did not concede gracefully.

It is an interesting choice for the Democrats since Abrams has no national political status nor holds any public office at this time. Abrams was born December 9, 1973. Abrams was the first black female major-party gubernatorial nominee in the history of the United States.

This woman’s charm, intelligence and innate leadership abilities may not shine as brightly on February 5, however, since transiting Saturn is applying to a square to her natal Chiron.

Transiting Venus creates a quick moving Grand Trine to her natal Earth trine Jupiter in helio which indicates the opportunity, but the turbulence of transiting Saturn puts her public image at risk. Transiting Mars opposing her natal Uranus also points at an unexpected reception in a national venue.

Quoting Wikipedia, "In April 2018, Abrams wrote an op-ed for Fortune revealing that she owes $50,000 in back taxes and holds $170,000 in credit card and student loan debt."
